Tampax: Excessive Packaging Fail

The Tampax Multi-Pack: 3 different absorbencies in one handy box! Not really. It just has three smaller unprinted boxes inside the bigger branded box. What a waste of tree-corpse. Even if it’s all recycled and recyclable, what a waste of energy. It all has to be manufactured and transported. You know, I’ve got no issue with the colour coded individual wrappers. They’re hygienic and they help me find the absorbency I want. But why box them up like that? I could have coped if they were all loose in the one box. Tampax, you disappoint me. With you I can [...]

Electric Car Drivers 'More Thoughtful'

This is a guest post by Robert Taylor.   Researchers at Newcastle University say electric vehicle drivers report feeling less stressed, calmer and more in control of their electric car. In addition, electric vehicles were found to emit less than half of the carbon dioxide produced by conventional combustion engine cars and grid energy is increasingly being generated by greener renewable sources. Walking slowly helps reaching the destination Despite the environmental benefits of electric vehicles however, their take-up remains slow. The government has an incentive package – the plug-in car grant – which gives customers up to £5,000 towards the [...]

New Graze Food: Pears (Get A Free Snack Box!)

The new Graze.com snacks with dried pear are fantastic! And you can get your own box for free if you haven’t tried them yet – use code XF1RCB8. The one in the photo is “Poached Pear”; the main ingredients are pear, sultanas, vanilla pumpkin seeds and lemon infused sultanas. The pumpkin seeds are sweet, sticky to the touch, and taste like they should be a lot less healthy than they actually are. The fruit is tasty and tangy, and I’m surprised I’ve never tried dried pear before until this week. It really is awesome. On Tuesday I tried the new “Pear Tatin”, [...]

Fancy Jacket Potatoes With Cheese

A very easy, but fancier and tastier than usual, baked potatoes recipe. This one is relatively healthy if you go easy on the cheese, and makes a simple but good-looking dish for a quick dinner on a budget. It also makes great finger food for babies or cutlery training food for toddlers. I used: 1 large baking potato per person lots and lots of cheese (mine was a medium Cheddar) ground black pepper mixed herbs (marjoram, basil, oregano and thyme) garlic granules What to do: Bake the potatoes (Google this part if you don’t know how… hot oven, an hour [...]

Depressed Scots Told to Talk to their Computer

This is a guest post by Anthony on behalf of Janet Stones Counselling.  In a confrontational move, thousands of people suffering from anxiety and depression are being moved from the therapy couch and placed in front of their own keyboards. After facing cuts in the NHS budget and high levels of stress and depression in the population, Ministers in Scotland are considering different ways to reduce the amount of scheduled appointment times. In order to reduce NHS expenditure and waiting times, patients who visit their GP with moderate symptoms may be referred to a new website. The online service will [...]

The Role of Alcohol in the Development of Yeast Infections

This is a guest post by Stewart Sticker. Machiavelli Id does not recommend making any major dietary changes without getting medical advice first.  Candida, or candidiasis, is the overgrowth of a normally benign microorganism called Candida albicans that lives in the mouths, digestive systems, and urinary tracts of every human being. This condition causes a variety of health problems, including yeast infections, digestive disturbances, skin rashes and irritations, thrush, chronic fatigue, and various other issues. Although Candida albicans usually lives quietly in your body, kept in check by friendly bacteria that share the space, certain life events can disrupt that [...]

Graze: snacks delivered to your door [get a box free!]

This is how bourgeois I’ve become. These snack boxes are nifty! All the snacks in your box are listed on a little leaflet with ingredients (fairtrade, organic & so on), some nutritional health info, calorie counts (often lower than a slice of buttered toast), etc. It’s ace. Get a Free Graze Box I got a voucher code for a free Graze box [thanks, Ocado], and then [...]
