Jubilee Xbox 360 Celebration Pack: Union Jack Skins

Just seen that the leaked news last month about a special edition Union Jack Xbox 360 package has been confirmed by Microsoft. It’s the same white hardware and extra stuff as you get in the older Xbox 360 Family Pack: a white 4GB Xbox 360 S console a white Kinect sensor 2 white wireless controllers Kinect Adventures Kinect Sports 3 months’ Xbox Live Gold membership The only extra to what they’re calling the “Celebration Pack” is that it comes with free Union Jack skins for all the hardware, so that you can make it look like this: That means you [...]

The 80s Are Still Not Going Away: Madonna, Teenage Kicks and Me

I remember as a pre-teen wearing head-to-toe black (the closest I could get to a grown-up look, styling-wise) and two enormous black eyes of eyeshadow to channel Madonna for the summer camp talent show. We danced badly but aerobically to “Like A Virgin“, not having a clue what the lyrics meant. I’d seen Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan and she was the coolest of cool. In the time since then, she’s rocked some deeply dubious looks [including the rarely spotted "squatting-naked-with-a bottle-of-mineral-water"], but the 80s are back [still, FFS] and Vogue just published an online gallery of her styles through the [...]

My corduroy jeans. I bought 4 pairs in about 2002 and I still have 2 of them. They’re worn so thin you can see my skin through the fabric in places, and there are holes in the seams, but…

Instead of telling you what I’ve been working on lately, I decided to mention some of the jobs I’ve been offered that I didn’t take: A page in a coffee table book of black & white close-ups of anonymous vulvas.  The plan was to donate the profits to a cervical cancer charity so I might have considered it, but the Animal didn’t like the idea and although the team were earnest well-meaning folk I agreed with him.  The anonymity struck me as sad, a shame, a waste, in a collection of  such personal images.  And the focus on external genitalia seemed misdirected, an arty not-very-unique selling point that [...]

MI does the Wicker Man at Butser Ancient Farm

Every year, the folk at Butser Ancient Farm celebrate Beltane (May Day) by burning a giant man made of twigs and straw. It’s a Gaelic tradition, with equivalents in Celtic & neopagan cultures, to mark the start of the summer. More importantly IMO, it’s a reason and a place to gather with people who like that kind of thing and celebrate the increasing warmth and light of evenings (in the Northen hemisphere anyway) at this time of year. Aside from the fascination & mild amusement I feel when I see a field full of people dressed up as druids/green men/maids [...]

Last night was one of the highlights of Reading’s social calendar: Beatrix von Bourbon‘s bimonthly Hot Muffins! Burlesque show.  Musical entertainment was provided by DJs Trouble Taylor and Blind Dog Abley [for whom I could find no URL, o the shame] as well as the ukulele-wielding Des O’Connor (no, not that one) while we waited for the pretty ladies to take the stage at the Oakford Social Club in Reading. There I witnessed the circus antics of Oh Mai!, a duo (Eris Eveiller and December Charm) whose lion-and-tamer act was cute and amusing. These curvy girls weren’t afraid to crack [...]
