Electric Car Drivers 'More Thoughtful'

This is a guest post by Robert Taylor.   Researchers at Newcastle University say electric vehicle drivers report feeling less stressed, calmer and more in control of their electric car. In addition, electric vehicles were found to emit less than half of the carbon dioxide produced by conventional combustion engine cars and grid energy is increasingly being generated by greener renewable sources. Walking slowly helps reaching the destination Despite the environmental benefits of electric vehicles however, their take-up remains slow. The government has an incentive package – the plug-in car grant – which gives customers up to £5,000 towards the

Beautiful Physics: Black Hole Montage [Video]

This. is. awesome.  7 minutes of black hole formation animations, interacting galaxies, pulsars, and other pretty things. With a Chemical Brothers soundtrack. Forget the old Red Dwarf joke about black holes in space; there’s a lot to see and it’s beautiful to watch. Mini-MI loved it, so I’ll ask the 4nim4l to add it to her bedtime playlist.

The Role of Alcohol in the Development of Yeast Infections

This is a guest post by Stewart Sticker. Machiavelli Id does not recommend making any major dietary changes without getting medical advice first.  Candida, or candidiasis, is the overgrowth of a normally benign microorganism called Candida albicans that lives in the mouths, digestive systems, and urinary tracts of every human being. This condition causes a variety of health problems, including yeast infections, digestive disturbances, skin rashes and irritations, thrush, chronic fatigue, and various other issues. Although Candida albicans usually lives quietly in your body, kept in check by friendly bacteria that share the space, certain life events can disrupt that

Science Says: Santa's Reindeer Probably Girls

Just had a text from Vix asking me whether Santa’s reindeer are boys or girls so that she can answer the question posed in her 7 year old daughter’s note left out for the Fat Man. The answer, fact fiends, is this: Most male reindeer tend to lose their antlers by early December, so there’s a good chance that the majority of Santa’s reindeer are female. We should probably have guessed this from their ability to take Christmas multi-tasking to an entirely new quantum level in delivering all those presents in one night. I am knackered and going to collapse
